What are like terms?
Like terms have the same variable and power. Only like terms can be combined.
\(3x + 2y - x + 5y = 2x + 7y\) — the \(x\) terms group together, the \(y\) terms group together.
Common mistake: \(3x + 2y \neq 5xy\) — different variables cannot be combined.
