Practice questions
Challenge questions
Non-unit fractions of larger amounts, or compare two fractions of different amounts
Word problems
Real-life contexts — read carefully and identify the calculation needed
Method
To find \(\dfrac{a}{b}\) of an amount: divide by \(b\) to find one part, then multiply by \(a\).
\(\dfrac{2}{3}\) of \(18\): \(18\div3=6\) (one third) \(6\times2=12\) (two thirds)
This also works as \(\dfrac{2}{3}\times18=\dfrac{36}{3}=12\)
